November 22, 2010 Memorial of Saint Cecilia Mass and Reflections

Today is the feast of St Cecilia, the Patron Saint of Musicians and Church Music.

Scripture readings for today's Mass can be found here

The reflections below are on today's Gospel of the widow and her two mites.

Given the importance of music in so many people's lives it is surprising that we don't seem to make a lot of it in the same ways as National Patron Saints days like St Patrick's Day ....

So here to celebrate the day for St Cecilia are a few tokens to say thank you for all the music.

The most popular Gospel song on the internet ... Oh Happy Day .....

This wonderful video is one of my favourite clips that shows the power of music ...the blind Al Pacino sweeps her off the floor to the magic and romantic tango music.

An invitation across the nations..... dancing in the street....all we need is music, sweet sweet music.....

Link to the words to A Song For St Cecilia's Day by poet John Dryden here.

Song for the day is surprisingly appropriate even though it is an old song

What are your choices of music for St Cecilia's day ?
